About me

About Me

I'm Sarah. Like many teacher-types, I like to organise things in labelled baskets and have a penchant for nice colouring pencils. Wife, mum of two and enthusiastic shower singer.

I set up as a freelance creative education consultant three years ago after an immensely enjoyable decade in teaching. I had left my senior management role at a diverse London primary school to relocate our family to Oxfordshire when I saw a consultancy post advertised which appealed to my interest in the Arts. I had written a book for an educational publisher previously which meant I had the experience of meeting a brief, and was always interested in exploring the learning opportunities provided by cultural establishments, both professionally and with my family. My efficiency, enthusiasm and creativity won the contract, alongside a clear and current understanding of their target audience.

As I continue to develop my consultancy and writing portfolio, it will always be important to me to upkeep my teaching practice. I passionately believe this is the best way to create relevant, practical resources that are genuinely attractive to their audience. This is what sets me apart from other consultants. Experienced they may be, but this is often means they haven’t set foot in a classroom for a while and no longer readily consider the logistical factors that can become barriers to school engagement.

My favourite thing about freelance work is the opportunity to work with such a variety of organisations. I thrive off the palpable buzz of collaboration, and, as we all know, the joy of working in education is that there's always something new to discover.

It’s fantastic to work with Sarah because you know that any given project is in safe hands. We’re so grateful for her work with the Mayor’s London Curriculum programme where she’s authored several of our teacher resources. Her expert knowledge of the National Curriculum and what works in the classroom has been essential, as well as her creative approach to developing engaging lesson plans.

Sarah recently co-ordinated and wrote ‘Wild About London’ – a new primary school resource to help teachers make the most of London’s green spaces and biodiversity. She liaised with five high-profile partners, including Kew Gardens and the Wildlife Trust, to develop its curriculum content. Her professional approach to project management and creative ideas resulted in a high-quality resource that received positive feedback from our stakeholders. We wouldn’t hesitate to work with Sarah again in future!

Sarah did a fantastic job writing schools resources for us at Southbank Centre. She gathered together all the fragments of our ideas and created something that was relevant and exciting for teachers and children, and brought to life the Southbank Centre site and its heritage. Sarah also made the whole process enjoyable for me and my team. She brought lots of energy to the project, was easy to work with and I had every confidence that she was going to do a brilliant job. I highly recommend Sarah and look forward to working with her again soon!
